in the sport of jai alai, a long device made of wicker(= very thin pieces of wood twisted together) that is fastened to a player's arm and used to hit a small ball hard against a wall :
A basket called a cesta is strapped to the players' arms.
The player catches the ball in a glove-like basket known as a cesta and hurls it back against the wall at speeds of over 100 mph.
