candidiasis noun[ U ] medical specializeduk /ˌkæn.dɪˈdaɪə.sɪs/ us /ˌkæn.dəˈdaɪə.sɪs/ an infection, usually of the mouth, throat, or vagina, caused by a fungus: Infants less than 6 months of age often suffer from oral candidiasis. Vaginal thrush or candidiasis is very common and is caused by an overgrowth of yeast. His oesophageal candidiasis recurred after the pneumonia was diagnosed. Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis is often accompanied by endocrine or inflammatory disorders. Most cases of vaginal candidiasis respond to single dose therapy. Candidiasis of the mouth and throat occurs in some patients.
