Most patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy lose their independent mobility. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is caused by an error in a gene called dystrophin and usually affects only boys. The research could lead to a similar approach for genetic diseases such as Duchenne's muscular dystrophy and sickle cell anaemia. In Duchenne's muscular dystrophy, symptoms begin before the age of 4, are progressive, and lead to difficulty in walking.
