Carlos Jiménez is a coal miner in Colombia. A year or two later, Cuban exiles in Mexico and Colombia, with support from the people of those countries, organized a secret society known as the "Black Eagle," having for its purpose a Cuban revolution. Born in Colombia, but long resident in Peru, he was a gentleman of the old school, keenly interested, not only in the administration and economic progress of his plantation, but also in the intellectual movements of the outside world. It will be noted that the Peruvian coinage is almost identical with that of Colombia. The Inca Empire extended from Colombia and Ecuador in the north far down to the present Chile. Thus revolutions against his authority broke out in Venezuela, and even in parts of Colombia itself. |
