any of three very small, curved bones on the inside surface of the nose on each side:
inferior nasal conchaThe inferior nasal concha extends horizontally along the lateral wall of the nasal cavity.
superior nasal conchaThe organ of smell is the olfactory epithelium, which covers the superior nasal concha.
middle nasal conchaThe middle nasal conchae can be seen on either side of the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone.
Branches of the olfactory nerves are distributed to the mucous membrane covering the superior nasal concha.
Because of their curved shape, the turbinates are also called nasal conchae.
