Cones are mostly found in the fovea centralis of the human retina. Most primate retinas have an area dedicated for high visual acuity called the fovea centralis. At the fovea centralis, the retina is exceedingly thin. In the mouse, as in most mammals lacking a fovea centralis, there is substantial convergence of cones onto ganglion cells.
