From the fourth ventricle, the cerebrospinal fluid leaves through foramina in the brain stem to circulate down around the spinal cord and over the surface of the brain. Symptoms are mainly due to increased intracranial pressure due to blockage of the fourth ventricle. In the first case, the tumour was in the fourth ventricle. The cerebral aqueduct is a narrow canal through the midbrain, connecting the third and fourth ventricles, and through which cerebrospinal fluid flows.
